Tech rotations
Student work, 6th & 8 grade -Theatre 1
In the last six weeks, we review various technical jobs such as prop construction, costume construction, makeup application, puppet building, and sewing on a machine. Students pick 2-3 stations to rotate through. Upon completion of a station, students write a reflection on their work. All supplies are donated or brought in by scholars.
Prop & Costume Design
UIL One-Act Play
For our UIL production of Eurydice, I with the assistance of my advanced scholars, designed and constructed several props for our production. From different bouquets of light-up flowers to show the age of our stones, to a light up raining umbrella for Eurydice. And to complete the overall asthetic of the production we altered 4 dresses for Eurydice and the stones, encorporating the aged rose petals.
Intro to sewing
Student work, 6th -8th grade -All theatre classes
Students in Theatre 1 are shown how to use a simple sewing template to create a unique plushy monster just for them. The students learn 5 types of embroidery stitches consisting of the running, back, stem, split, and chain, which they must use on their monster. Once they learn this, in Theatre 2 they continue practicing their sewing by assisting with measuring and hemming the band and choir dresses for UIL. Last of all they use all their knowledge of sewing to design and construct their dresses and headpieces for our Hispanic Heritage performance.
Costume/prop construction
Student work, 6th & 8 grade -Theatre 1
This project is done by all levels of theatre, with the grading rubric and construction skills increasing as they move up in Theatre. Students learn about the elements of design and create or find a pattern that they then transfer to template pieces printed on cardstock. Students color then construct their Geoheads and complete a video and written self-reflection. When this unit is finished, students also create and perform an inner monologue based on how they transformed into their animal.
Scenic Design 2
Student work, 7th & 8 grade -Theatre 2
In this project, students learn and put into practice their set design skills by utilizing scale models. Students picked a random character and created a design board and rendering for a living room or bedroom. They then used 1/2in. scale flats and furniture to create their designs out of cardstock.

Scenic Design
Student work, 6th grade -Theatre 1
In this project, students work in pairs to design and create scenic models. Students learn the elements of design and how to apply those elements to a scenic design. Students learn to make a "design web", color palate, rendering, and miniature model. All students are supplied with materials needed to construct and paint their models.
M&M lighting challenge
COLOR THEORY
Class Exercise
This exercise illustrates some of the basic principles of color theory. Utilizing M&M's and colored lighting (red, blue, green, and white) students are asked to group similar M&M's. Using the primary colors of light and additive color mixing, this project showcases how the color of light can drastically change the appearance of an object.
Wishing tree dress
Costume Design
UIL One-Act Play
For our UIL production of the Wishing Tree, I designed and constructed a dress for the actor playing the role of Wishing Tree. The construction involved making a simple black sleeveless dress that was covered in foliage to resemble a tree. The total construction time was approximately 25 hours.
